"This is a photo I've been meaning to send to you for a while. It was taken 15-17 years ago now. It shows my parents, their dog lillie and their two GREAT grandsons at Fort Funston on the old trail that is now gone.
The boys have headlamps on because they were going to explore the old battery and tunnels which are now closed off. Sadly, my mom and the dog, Lille, are gone now. My dad is still around but he is 92 and can no longer walk. When he retired as Superintendent of Parks in 1975 he and my mom started walking at Fort Funston everyday with their dog, off-leash, of course. When he could no longer drive because of his eyesight I drove them out there almost every Saturday with Lille and, later, Porter. And, when mom could no longer walk, I pushed her along the trail in a wheelchair. I'd say they walked there for at least 25 years with one dog or another.
Cheers,
Lorrie Poch"
